Submissions should include a minimum of two documents (metadata + article).

Images should be sent as individual picture files together with a separate captions document.

Please label files with a clearly identifiable word (or two) from your article title, NOT your name or initials.

Metadata

Please ensure the following metadata is included as a separate document (labelled as ‘Title metadata’):

  1. Article title
  2. Author’s name
  3. Author’s postal and email address
  4. Author’s biography and affiliation (50-100 words)
  5. Abstract (200-300 words)
  6. Keywords (listed one per line, in lower case where applicable)
  7. Wordcount

SiC is a double-anonymised peer reviewed journal and has been approved for inclusion in citation databases such as Scopus. However as a journal in a niche field it is important that our articles attract the maximum possible number of citations in order for us to retain this status. We therefore ask our contributors to help us maximize our online searchability by (1) making the most of keywords in the title and abstract so that articles appear higher in search engine results; and (2) making abstracts clear, descriptive, and as wide as possible in scope.

Images and captions

  • Please scan images in hi-resolution (at least 300dpi) as single, separate picture files (jpeg, tiff, etc).
  • Label files ‘Title fig1’, ‘Title fig2’, etc.
  • Endnotes v footnotes: Please ensure endnotes are used, not footnotes. Endnotes should only be used sparingly and are for giving additional information, not for listing references (see below).
  • References: These must be according to the Harvard system. Bibliographic entries take the form: Keen, S. (2007), Empathy and the Novel, Oxford: Oxford University Press.  The corresponding reference in the text should be: (Keen 2007: 10).
  • Referencing comics: Please use the Harvard system. Please include the names of the writer and artist (at the very least) in the bibliographic entry, up to a maximum of four contributors, and refer to ‘lead creator et al.’ in the main body of article.

Single issue comics should be referenced as follows:

Delano, J., Case, R., Vozzo, D. and Klein, T. (1995), ‘First Tremor’, Ghostdancing #1, New York: DC Comics.  Reference in text: (Delano et al. 1995: 10)

One-shot comics should be referenced as follows:

Moore, A., Bolland, B., Higgins, J. and Starkings, S. (1988), The Killing Joke, London: Titan Books.  Reference in text: (Moore et al. 1988: 10)

Trade paperbacks and collected editions should be referenced as follows:

Ennis, G., Dillon, S., Hollingsworth, M., and Robins, C. (1996), Preacher: Gone to Texas, 1-7, New York: DC Comics.  Reference in text: (Ennis et al. 1996: 10)
